Program Description
The Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program provides research opportunities in the TANMS Engineering Research Center for undergraduates from non-TANMS affiliated colleges and universities.
REU participants have the opportunity to:
- Work collaboratively with faculty, postdoc scholars & graduate student mentors on cutting-edge multiferroic technology
- Obtain experience working in TANMS engineering testbed
- Gain knowledge of Industry & Entre/Intrapreneurship
- Develop skill conveying ideas to diverse audiences (e.g., researchers, venture capitalists, and recruiters)
- Build an extensive academic and professional network
- Participate in team-building exercises and fun activities with undergraduate peers
Eligibility
- Must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Undergraduate students whose home institutions are not one of TANMS universities
- (i.e., students NOT currently enrolled at UCLA, Cornell, CSUN, UC Berkeley, UT Dallas)
- Preference is given to rising sophomores, juniors and seniors
- Underrepresented Minorities (URMs) and Women encouraged to apply
- $4000 stipend
- Financial support for housing and meals
- Travel support for out-of-area students (up to $600)
- Access to workshops, seminars and special events
- Hands-on multiferroics-related research
- Build valuable research and entre/intrapreneurial skills
- Opportunities to participate in outreach activities with high school students
Program Location, Duration, and Dates for 2018
- Locations for summer 2018: UCLA and UC Berkeley
- Preference in campus assignment will be considered but not guaranteed.
- 8 weeks; 40 hours per week
